PROJECT COMMITMENTS

Reducing Impacts on Communities and the Environment

Since the start of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) have collaborated closely with our state and federal agencies, our local partners and, of course, the public. As a result, we have designed features into the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project that reduce impacts on communities and the environment while enhancing quality of life. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, this process included a thorough assessment of impacts, documented in the 2012 Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), the 2024 revised Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) and FONSI, and all project re-evaluations. These documents, including supporting technical reports, can be found in the Document Center.

As documented in the 2012 EA/FONSI, 2024 SEA/FONSI, and NEPA re-evaluations, ODOT and KYTC have incorporated commitments into the project that minimize and mitigate impacts as well as provide enhancements for both the human and natural environment. These project commitments reflect ODOT and KYTC’s ongoing dedication to improving quality of life. They are the result of years of collaboration between ODOT, KYTC, the agencies and the communities they serve.

Figure 1 shows the current status of implementing project commitments. Each commitment is assigned one of the following status designations:

  • Complete: Activities associated with the commitment are complete.
  • Design in progress: Design activities or build innovations communication/coordination associated with the commitment have begun but the commitment is not yet complete.
  • Not started: Activities associated with the commitment have not started.
  • Not required: This commitment is no longer needed due to changes in the project. Either the impact that originally required the commitment is no longer occurring, or previous coordination has resolved the related tasks, so the need for the commitment is no longer triggered.
