I-75 Southbound Exit Ramp to 5th Street

The left lane of the southbound I-75 exit ramp to Fifth Street will close during the day on August 31 for concrete pouring.

  • Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 31 the left lane of the southbound I-75 exit ramp to Fifth Street will close for concrete pouring.
  • Drivers can use the right lane to continue straight to Fifth Street or turn left on Central Avenue.
  • The lane is expected to reopen by 4 p.m.

central avenue from Third street to pete Rose way closure

Central Avenue will be closed on August 27 between Third Street and Pete Rose Way for overhead ramp demolition. The road will reopen temporarily for Labor Day weekend on September 4 at noon and will close again on September 8 by 2 a.m. The work is expected to be complete by September 12.

  • All lanes of Central Avenue between Third Street and Pete Rose Way will be closed August 27 after 2 a.m. for the Second Street ramp demolition.
  • The full closure is planned from August 27 to September 12, but the roadway will remain open from noon on September 4 through 2 a.m. on September 8 for the Labor Day weekend.
  • Southbound vehicle traffic will be maintained with a detour on W. Third Street to left on the Clay Wade Bailey to left on Second Street and right on Elm Street.
  • Northbound vehicle traffic should utilize W. Mehring Way to left on Elm Street, to left on W. Third Street.
  • Pedestrians should use W. Third Street to Elm Street, to W. Mehring Way, to Central Avenue.
  • Central Avenue is expected to fully reopen on or after September 12.

Long-Term Road Closures

Second Street Lane Closure

On Thursday, July 16, Second Street will be reduced to one lane between the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge and Elm Street beginning at 10 p.m.

  • Traffic will be maintained in one lane through the spring of 2027.

I-71 Northbound ramp to Second Street

Preparations to close the exit ramp from northbound I-71 to Second Street (Exit 1A) begin Wednesday, July 15, at approximately 11 p.m. and it will be fully closed by Thursday, July 16, at approximately 6 a.m. for bridge demolition.

  • Motorists will be detoured by way of I-75 North to Fifth Street (Exit 1C) and Race Street.
  • This exit ramp is slated to reopen in the fall of 2028.

Westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct ramp to Gest Street

Permanent ramp closures and detours will begin on or after Tuesday, July 14. Closure dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions. Detour routes will be in place for each affected closure

Preparations to close the ramp from westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Gest Street begin will begin Tuesday, July 14, at 11 p.m. and it will be fully closed by Wednesday, July 15 at approximately 6 a.m.

  • Motorists will be detoured by way of Linn Street and the W. 6th Street service road.
  • This ramp is a permanent closure and will be replaced with a new ramp in a future phase

U.S. 50 to 5th and Central Ave. ramp and lane closures 

Temporary and permanent ramp closures and detours will begin on or after Monday, July 13. Closure dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions. Detour routes will be in place for each affected closure

Eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct will close overnight tonight, Monday, July 13, beginning at 11 p.m. for restriping and installation of a portable barrier wall.

  • The ramp is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14.
  • Traffic will be maintained via a detour using the Freeman Avenue exit, then continuing straight on Mehring Way and turning left on Elm Street.

The left turn-only lane from eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Fifth Street will close for bridge widening on July 13 at 6 p.m.

  • Traffic will be maintained with one through/left-turn lane and one through-only lane.
  • The lane is expected to reopen in September of 2026.

The right lane of southbound Central Ave between Sixth Street and Fourth Street will close on July 13 at 6 p.m. for bridge widening.

  • Traffic will be maintained with one through lane on Central Avenue and two left-turn lanes to eastbound Fifth Street.
  • Parking along the west side of Central Avenue between Sixth Street and Fourth Street will also be closed.
  • The lane is expected to reopen in September of 2026.

I-75 SOUTH/U.S. 50 EAST RAMP CLOSURES AND i-71 NORTH RAMP CLOSURE

Temporary and permanent ramp closures and detours will begin on or after Sunday, June 28. Closure dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions. Detour routes will be in place for each affected closure

Eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct ramp to Second Street

  • The exit ramp from eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Second Street will be closed Sunday, June 28, beginning at approximately 10 p.m.
  • Motorists may detour by way of Freeman Avenue, Mehring Way and Elm Street.
  • This ramp will be a permanent closure.

I-75 Southbound ramp to Second Street

  • The exit ramp from I-75 South to Second Street (Exit 1A) will be closed Monday, June 30, beginning at 11 p.m.
  • Motorists will be detoured by way of Fifth Street (Exit 1C) and Race Street.
  • This ramp will be closed permanently and replaced with a new ramp to Third Street that will provide access to Second Street.
  • A temporary ramp to Third Street will be in place in the fall of 2026.

I-71 Northbound ramp to Second Street

  • This exit ramp is slated to reopen in the fall of 2028.

Westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct ramp to Gest Street

  • The ramp from westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Gest Street will be closed Tuesday, July 7, beginning at 11 p.m. 
  • Motorists will be detoured by way of Linn Street and the W. 6th Street service road.
  • This ramp is a permanent closure and will be replaced with a new ramp in a future phase.

Second Street

  • Second Street will be reduced to one lane between the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge and Elm Street beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 9.
  • Traffic will be maintained in one lane through the spring of 2027.

Winchell Avenue Closure

On Sunday, Feb. 16, the ramp to Winchell Avenue which is accessible from I-75 North, 9th Street and 6th Street closed. The closure went into effect for its reconstruction at Linn Street, as well as for the replacement of the pedestrian bridge. The 9th Street ramp to I-75 north is expected to reopen in summer 2027, while Winchell Avenue will remain closed until May 2029. Gest Street between Freeman Avenue and the West 7th Street/West 8th Street overpasses closed for approximately four years.

Access to Winchell Avenue from 6th Street will be closed with a right-lane closure on the ramp. However, closure from 9th Street will also mean closure of the ramp to I-75 North, and motorists from 9th Street will be able to continue onto 8th Street to Freeman Avenue to I-75 North. An alternate route to Winchell Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive from I-75 North includes 6th Street (U.S. 50 West) and Freeman Avenue.

Linn Street Closure

Currently, Linn Street is scheduled for closure on Thursday, April 2, and the closure will be in place through the spring of 2029. During its closure, northbound traffic will be detoured by way of W. 8th Street, Freeman Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive, and southbound traffic will be re-routed via Ezzard Charles Drive, Western Avenue, Freeman Avenue and W. 8th.

As work to reconstruct Linn Street begins, crews will first undertake demolition of the existing structure, and this will require two, full weekend closures of I-75 in alternating directions.

Weather permitting, the first weekend closure will be the northbound lanes, between the U.S. 50 exit (Exit 1D) and the Freeman Avenue entrance ramp, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, April 3, and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday, April 6. Along with the closure of I-75 North, the entrance ramps from 4th and 6th streets will be closed during this time.

The second weekend closure will be the southbound lanes of I-75, between the Freeman Avenue exit (Exit 1F) and the U.S. 50 entrance ramp, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, April 17, and continuing until 5 a.m. April 20.

Gest Street Closure

On Feb. 12, Gest Street between Freeman Avenue and the West Seventh Street/West Eighth Street overpasses closed for approximately four years.

Traffic in both directions will be detoured so workers can replace a water main to move it out of the path of the project. The closure will also be in place to accommodate reconstruction of the Linn Street Bridge over Interstate 75, which is expected to being this spring. Both projects are in preparation for construction of the approaches to the new companion bridge across the Ohio River.

No interruptions in water service are expected. Commercial establishments on the closed stretch of Gest will remain open because they all have entrances on Freeman Avenue, Eighth Street or both.

Parking Lot Closures – UPDATED 9.1.26

As construction work to build the new companion bridge to the Brent Spence Bridge continues, the project team will adjust traffic patterns and some parking lot access to ensure work moves forward safely and efficiently.

We’re working closely with the City of Cincinnati to minimize the impacts to parking as much as possible and to communicate what to expect. Many lots will close and then reopen at a later date to maximize the number of spaces while ensuring construction safety. Drivers who regularly park in affected lots will be notified in advance.

May 4 Closure:

  • The Crossett Lot, also known as Lot 1, across from Paycor Stadium

May 11 Closure:

  • Lot under 2nd Street
  • Lot A (South)

August 31 Closures:

  • John Street lot and on-street parking
