Potential Careers  

Construction Workers perform a variety of physical tasks on construction sites. Work may include working atop tall structures. No past experience is required, and training is performed on the job. Median salary ~$45,000 

Equipment Operators specialize in the operation of heavy construction machinery, such as bulldozers, backhoes, and dump trucks. Experience is desirable, and a commercial driver’s license is required in most cases. Median salary ~$55,000 

Construction Supervisors schedule, coordinate, and supervise construction activities. They direct crews, keep track of tasks, and ensure that work is done safely and to specifications. Usually requires four or more years of experience. Median salary ~$80,000

Heavy Equipment Mechanics support construction efforts by maintaining the trucks and heavy equipment. Usually requires two or more years of experience. Median salary ~$61,000 

Construction Inspectors assure that the work on a construction site is code-compliant and meets requirements. Inspector candidates are not required to have a college degree but usually need at least five years’ experience. Median salary ~$68,000 

Logistics Managers ensure that workers have the materials needed to get the job done, such as concrete and asphalt. A college degree in a discipline such as supply chain management, logistics or business administration is generally required. Median salary ~$112,000
